Quick-thinking Bataan cop delivers baby girl, wins praise for compassion

A police officer in Bataan is being praised for his quick thinking and compassion after assisting a woman with a mental disability to safely deliver her baby during an emergency on Wednesday.

According to Bataan police chief Col. Marites Salvadora, the Orani Municipal Police Station received a 911 call from Sitio Alikabok, Barangay Bayan, about a woman in distress. Responding officers led by Police M/Sgt. Ronald Imperial found the 30-year-old already in labor beneath a tree.

Imperial, who once worked as a registered nurse before joining the force, immediately put his medical background to use. He successfully delivered the baby girl, cut the umbilical cord, and ensured both mother and child were stable until they were brought to a nearby health facility.

Witnesses lauded the officers for going beyond their usual duties and showing genuine care in a life-or-death situation.

Police Regional Office 3 chief Brig. Gen. Ponce Rogelio Peñones Jr. commended Imperial’s response, calling it “an example of true public service.” He stressed that police work is not limited to law enforcement but also about “saving lives,” a principle tied to the “7 Focus Agenda” of Acting PNP Chief Lt. Gen. Jose Melencio I. Nartatez Jr., which aims to build trust and improve community service.

Both the mother and her newborn daughter are now safe under medical care.
