Akbayan party-list Rep. Chel Diokno on Monday pressed lawmakers and Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) officials tagged in the Discaya couple’s testimony to come clean by making their assets and finances fully transparent.
“Sa mga pagbubunyag nitong umaga sa Senado, hinahamon natin ang lahat ng nadawit—mga tauhan at opisyal ng DPWH, pati na rin ang ilang mambabatas—na ipakita ang kanilang SALN at lumagda ng waiver sa bank secrecy para sa ganap na transparency,” Diokno declared during a press briefing.
He added that other contractors and officials who may have knowledge of irregularities should also speak out: “Hinihikayat din natin ang ibang mga kontratista at opisyales na lumantad at isiwalat ang kanilang nalalaman tungkol sa mga iregularidad.”
Diokno, who had earlier made his own Statement of Assets, Liabilities, and Net Worth (SALN) public, stressed that both SALN disclosure and the waiver of bank secrecy are crucial in mounting a genuine, all-encompassing fight against corruption.
“Dapat mapanagot ang mga nasa likod nito, pati na ang kanilang mga kasabwat. Hindi tayo papayag na may makakalusot,” he said, underscoring his call for accountability.
The lawmaker’s statement came after Pacifico “Curlee” Discaya and Cezarah “Sarah” Discaya accused certain DPWH officials and members of Congress of involvement in alleged anomalous flood control projects.
