A rare Blood Moon lit up the UAE skies on Sunday night, and one Dubai-based photographer managed to capture the spectacle in a way that quickly went viral.
Photographer Rami Dibo unveiled a striking timelapse showing the lunar eclipse unfolding directly over the Burj Khalifa. The eight-second clip condenses the entire celestial event into a mesmerizing sequence where the moon rises in deep crimson before gradually fading back to its usual glow.
The video, shared on Instagram, highlights the moon crossing behind the world’s tallest tower—at one point glowing gold before abruptly shifting to blue—creating a dramatic contrast. The sequence was set to Imagine Dragons’ On Top of the World, amplifying the scene’s impact.
“While the complete cycle is still ongoing, I wanted to post this quick timelapse of the full lunar eclipse crossing the tallest building in the world,” Dibo wrote in his post.
The project was also part of the Dubai Astronomy Group’s flagship event at the Mohammed Bin Rashid Library, which included a global livestream with 20 partner organisations.
