Dubai Police seize minibus loaded with gas cylinders in Al Quoz

Dubai Police have sounded the alarm on the dangers of illegally transporting gas cylinders in private vehicles, calling the practice a serious threat to road safety.

Brigadier Jumaa Bin Suwaidan, Acting Director of the General Department of Traffic, confirmed that officers impounded a minibus during a patrol in the Al Quoz Industrial Area. The vehicle had been stripped of its seats to make room for a large number of gas cylinders.

“This posed a significant risk to drivers and road users, as a collision, leak, or unsafe storage could lead to devastating fires or explosions,” Bin Suwaidan stressed.

The driver has been referred to authorities for legal action, while police vowed to step up surveillance on both internal and external roads. According to Bin Suwaidan, ongoing inspection campaigns are designed to curb dangerous practices and protect the community.

He reminded residents that transporting hazardous materials without proper authorization is a criminal offense punishable by law. Beyond penalties, he warned, the consequences could be catastrophic for entire communities.

Dubai Police urged the public to play their part by reporting reckless behaviour through the “We Are All Police” hotline (901) or via the Dubai Police smart app. Bin Suwaidan emphasized that community vigilance is vital in keeping the emirate’s roads safe.
