Two Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) in the United Arab Emirates have expressed deep gratitude to the Migrant Workers Office (MWO) in Dubai and the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) for stepping in during some of the most difficult moments of their lives.
A teacher who has lived in the UAE for almost 20 years and wishes to be anonymous found herself facing detention after falling victim to an online scam that caused problems with her bank account. She said she was unaware that court proceedings had been filed against her until she was arrested. With the help of MWO-Dubai and the Philippine Consulate, she received legal aid and emotional support that ultimately led to her release and the dismissal of her case.
“Maraming, maraming salamat po sa support, legal assistance, and guidance ng MWO ng Department of Migrant Workers at ng Philippine Consulate. Hindi lang po sa financial, kundi emotionally, they were with us during this very difficult time,” she said.
Another OFW, designer Ramon Garcia Jr., who has been working in the UAE since 2014, also turned to MWO-Dubai when he faced employment-related issues. He said his case was resolved promptly through the office’s intervention. “Nagpapasalamat po ako sa MWO ng Department of Migrant Workers, sa mga bumubuo po dito na walang sawang tumutulong sa aming mga Pilipino,” Garcia shared.
Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Leo J. Cacdac commended the swift response of the MWO-Dubai Assistance to Nationals team, saying, “These legal victories are a clear demonstration of our government’s commitment to uphold the rights of every Filipino working overseas.
