Malacañang called on Filipinos to take an active role in the fight against corruption by directly reporting irregularities to President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.
Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Claire Castro stressed in a press briefing on August 29 that the campaign cannot be won by the government alone. “‘Yun naman po ang nais ni Pangulong Marcos Jr. na lahat-lahat po tayo ay magtulungan upang masawata itong mga korupsyon na ito. Hindi lamang po ang gobyerno, ang pamahalaan ang dapat kumilos, kundi ang taumbayan na nakakaalam ng mga nangyayari sa paligid nila. So mas maganda po talagang isumbong nila sa Pangulo,” she said.
The call comes after Marcos ordered “lifestyle checks” on public officials, beginning with the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), following the exposure of alleged irregularities in multi-billion-peso flood-control projects. The initiative aims to uncover discrepancies between officials’ reported income and their actual way of life, a move intended to restore public trust in government service.
Recent investigations by the Senate and the Commission on Audit into these flood-control projects revealed suspected “ghost” works, monopolized contracts, and misuse of licenses. In response, Marcos directed the public release of all flood-control projects from the past three years and dismissed a senior DPWH official over corruption suspicions.
