Eric Nicolas tries to pawn Torre’s signed gloves from no-show match with Baste Duterte for P500,000

Comedian Eric Nicolas recently brought a unique item to Boss Toyo’s “Pinoy Pawnstars” — the boxing gloves once used by Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Nicolas Torre in a charity bout against acting Davao City Mayor Baste Duterte.

The gloves carried sentimental value as they were signed by Torre after the event, where he was declared winner by default when Duterte failed to show up. Nicolas, who hosted the charity match, said his intention was not personal gain but to raise funds for two animal welfare foundations.

“Ayoko ng naka-display lang siya. Gusto ko katulad ng ginawa nila, may kahihinatnan,” he explained, stressing that he wanted the gloves to benefit a greater cause.

He initially priced the gloves at P500,000, but Boss Toyo countered with only P27,000 after consulting with a fellow collector, who valued the item at P30,000 at most. Nicolas refused to go that low, saying he was willing to negotiate only down to P140,000. “Ikaw lang ang meron nito. Mula Luzon hanggang Mindanao, ikaw lang,” he urged.

In the end, the comedian decided not to close the deal. Instead, the gloves will be included in Boss Toyo’s upcoming auction this September, where Nicolas hopes the rare piece of sports memorabilia will fetch a higher price — and ultimately provide more help to the charities he supports.
