A Filipina working abroad has decided not to pursue charges against her live-in partner, who was caught on video allegedly assaulting her five-year-old child. Instead, she expressed plans to take legal action against her own sister for posting the footage online.
In an interview with GMA News’ 24 Oras, the mother admitted that the viral video has left her deeply distressed as she now faces heavy criticism from the public.
“Sobrang stress ko po dito, doon dahil sa ginawang post po ng kapatid ko na ‘yon. Iaatras ko po ‘yung kaso ng jowa ko, Sir. Kasi binastos na rin ho ako sa social media. Sirang-sira na rin ho ako,” she said, adding that she intends to file charges against her sister for allegedly destroying her reputation and violating her child’s privacy.
The sister defended her actions, explaining that she only posted the clip to seek justice for her nephew, who was allegedly slapped, kicked in the head, lifted by the neck, and punched in the stomach by the child’s stepfather. The man has since denied the accusations.
While the mother admitted she wanted her partner held accountable, she claimed that authorities did not take him into custody despite her attempts to bring the matter to both the police and the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).
The situation further escalated when the OFW accused her sister and other relatives of physically hurting her son, alleging that the child had told her about being pinched. The sister strongly denied this, saying, “Hindi lalaki ng ganyan kalulusog yung anak niya kung sinasaktan dito.” She also refused to return the boy to his mother, citing fears the child might again be left in unsafe hands.
According to the Caloocan City Social Welfare Department, the child may be placed under their custody if investigations confirm that neither the mother nor the aunt can provide proper care and protection. Meanwhile, the boy’s uncle has already filed a child abuse complaint against the mother’s partner.
