Teves offers to testify in Senate probe on flood control projects

Former Negros Oriental Representative Arnolfo “Arnie” Teves Jr., who is facing multiple murder charges, has expressed his readiness to testify on alleged irregularities in flood control projects.

Teves’ lawyer, Atty. Ferdinand Topacio, revealed this through a letter dated August 18 addressed to Senator Rodante Marcoleta, chair of the Senate blue ribbon committee, which began its inquiry into the issue on Tuesday.

“Mr. Teves Jr., through the undersigned, humbly offers his willingness and intention to testify on how graft is being committed in flood control projects, as such testimony may aid your Honorable Committee in its investigation and ultimately help ensure good legislation and governance,” Topacio stated.

He added that Teves’ years of experience as a lawmaker could provide “invaluable insights and information on the subject matter of the investigation, to which others may not be privy.”

Teves was expelled from the House of Representatives in August 2023 for disorderly conduct and prolonged absence despite his expired travel authority. At the time, he was facing murder complaints over the killing of former Negros Oriental Governor Roel Degamo and others. He has consistently denied involvement.

Deported back to the Philippines from Timor-Leste in May 2025, Teves remains entangled in legal battles. He and 12 others were also declared terrorists by the Anti-Terrorism Council, citing alleged killings and harassment in Negros Oriental.
