Vice President Sara Duterte extended the heartfelt thanks of her father, former President Rodrigo Duterte, to Filipinos in Kuwait for their continued support and prayers as he faces detention in The Hague.
“Thank you for your support to his administration for six years and your prayers now, daily, every night, praying for his freedom. He wants you all to know that he knows you show him support in various ways,” the Vice President told attendees during the Hakbang ng Maisug gathering in Kuwait on August 15.
The former president has been held in the Netherlands since March following his arrest under a warrant issued by the International Criminal Court (ICC) over alleged crimes against humanity.
According to the Office of the Vice President, Sara Duterte’s visit also aimed to listen to the concerns and needs of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) in Kuwait.
The ICC has scheduled a confirmation of charges hearing against the former leader on September 23, 2025.
