Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief General Nicolas Torre III has once again urged Filipinos to steer clear of illegal drugs, stressing that drug use brings nothing but harm.
“There is nothing good that will ever come from it. The bottom line is, I have never seen a drug addict who looks beautiful or handsome,” Torre said in a recent interview. He went on to bluntly remark, “Lahat ng adik pangit.”
The police chief even cited celebrities who reportedly fell into drug use in the past, saying their once attractive looks deteriorated after addiction. “Tingnan n’yo ang before and after, ng isang artista napakaganda, naadik, tingnan mo naging itsura,” he added.
Torre’s words quickly spread online, drawing a mix of ridicule and criticism. Some netizens fired back, joking that his comments only backfired:
“PAANO CHIEF IKW ANG PANGIT … IBIG SABIHN ADIK KA RIN. PAG SURE HA.”
“Dapat may isang pogi nlang sa PNP nagsabi nyan. hindi ikaw Hahahahaa.”
“Pangit po ako pero never pa ako nakahawak ng shabu since birth.”
The renewed warning comes after five college students were arrested in a buy-bust operation in Puerto Princesa City, Palawan, for allegedly distributing “tuklaw,” a type of black cigarette mixed with synthetic cannabinoids that cause violent reactions to users.
According to Police Colonel Cristine Tabdi, acting director of Puerto Princesa City Police Station, the suspects—aged 19 to 25—were the identified source of the contraband. “Ito kasing nahuli natin is the identified source of the tuklaw na may synthetic cannabinoid nga dito sa Puerto Princesa,” she said in a report aired on 24 Oras.
Authorities continue to warn the public against trying such substances, emphasizing the physical, mental, and social destruction that drug use brings.
