What was meant to be a simple birthday celebration in The Hague, Netherlands, turned into a heated confrontation after supporters of former President Rodrigo Duterte clashed with former presidential spokesperson Harry Roque—over a dish of humba.
The gathering, hosted for a celebrant named Alvin, was livestreamed on Facebook by Cecil M. Arceño. What began as a cheerful get-together quickly soured when a woman erupted in anger, claiming that someone named “Aldo” had insulted them online.
Roque stepped in and declared, “This is my appeal. Some things are right, some things are wrong. You need to take a stand against wrong.” His remarks hinted at frustration after realizing he was the one being targeted in Aldo’s post while enjoying the humba, which was reportedly sponsored for the event.
Clearly agitated, Roque offered to pay for the food himself: “Can I pay for the whole humba, I will pay for the whole humba?” However, a woman stopped him, stressing that the dish was shared for everyone and not for sale, as it came from a close friend of the celebrant.
Still, Roque stood firm: “Merong tama, merong mali. You have to take a stand kung mali… sunud-sunuran kayo sa kanya eh… Make a stand.”
The exchange escalated to a back-and-forth with the birthday celebrant until others intervened to calm the situation. Roque, however, maintained that he was wronged, exclaiming: “I was the one blasphemed, I was blasphemed… Ako ang binastos… ako ang tinira. You have to condemn what is wrong. Magkano ang humba na ‘yan?”
