For the first time since the World Yo-Yo Contest began in 1992, the Philippines has secured a podium finish — thanks to the skill and determination of Miguel “Miggy” Hizon.
Competing in the 5A (Freehand) Division at the prestigious global event held from August 7 to 10, 2025 at the Centrum Cubex in Prague, Czech Republic, Hizon delivered a standout performance that earned him third place. His win marks a historic moment for Philippine yo-yoing, breaking decades of absence from the world stage’s top three.
Hizon is no stranger to dominance in the sport. An eight-time Philippine National Champion, he has long been recognized for his mastery of the 5A style, which challenges players to manipulate both the yo-yo and a counterweight detached from their finger. His bronze finish in Prague solidifies his status as one of the most accomplished Filipino yo-yo athletes to ever step onto the competition floor.
The World Yo-Yo Contest — which rotates between Europe, Asia, and the USA — gathered elite players from across the globe, making Hizon’s achievement all the more significant. His milestone not only adds to his decorated career but also inspires a new generation of Filipino players to aim for global excellence.
