28 distressed OFWs get P1.65M aid under AKSYON Fund

Twenty-eight distressed overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) and their families received a total of ₱1.65 million in financial aid from the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) under its AKSYON Fund, reaffirming the government’s commitment to stand by Filipinos in crisis abroad.

In a ceremony at the DMW Central Office in Mandaluyong City on August 11, Assistant Secretary Venecio Legaspi and DMW-NCR Regional Director Falconi Millar personally handed over the assistance—part of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s directive to deliver swift and meaningful help to OFWs in need.

Of the 28 recipients, eight OFWs received support for medical expenses, including hospital bills and follow-up treatments. The family of a deceased OFW was also granted ₱100,000 in aid to help them cope with the loss.

The AKSYON Fund, short for Agarang Kalinga at Saklolo para sa mga OFWs na Nangangailangan, is a special fund managed by the DMW to respond to urgent needs—ranging from legal and medical aid to repatriation—of OFWs and their families. Since its launch, it has reached over 135,000 beneficiaries worldwide, providing financial assistance of up to ₱100,000 for cases of death, ₱75,000 for those in medical crisis, and ₱50,000 for recently repatriated workers.
