Marcos welcomes Ramon Ang’s offer to help fix Metro Manila flooding

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has expressed gratitude to San Miguel Corporation (SMC) Chairman and CEO Ramon Ang for volunteering to address Metro Manila’s persistent flooding issues.

“Thank you,” Marcos said in a press conference on Monday when asked about Ang’s proposal, adding, “This is the reason why the private sector needs to be part of our national development.”

Ang made the offer during an August 8 briefing with government officials, pledging to undertake flood mitigation projects at no cost to the government or the public. His plan includes clearing and dredging clogged waterways and relocating houses built along riverbanks, which he said obstruct the natural flow of water.

The SMC chief’s initiative comes amid ongoing public discussion over the role of private sector-led infrastructure in urban planning and disaster prevention.
