Rodrigo Duterte pleased after SC strikes down impeachment cases vs Sara as unconstitutional

Former President Rodrigo Duterte was in high spirits after the Supreme Court (SC) ruled that the impeachment complaints against his daughter, Vice President Sara Duterte, were unconstitutional.

In a report by GMA News’ 24 Oras, the vice president shared how her father reacted to the decision. “Sinabi niya sa kanyang lawyer na mag-relax daw siya for one day. Hindi daw siya mag-meetings at hindi siya mag-physical therapy dahil gusto niya i-enjoy yung moment na nanalo yung kaso sa Supreme Court,” she said.

Sara, however, expressed disappointment that the ruling meant the public would not see the full presentation of evidence from both sides. “I wanted all the pieces of evidence from the prosecution and all the pieces of evidence from the defense presented for everyone. But unfortunately, that will not happen for now,” she said, adding that future impeachment attempts could still be filed in 2026, 2027, or 2028.

Senator Erwin Tulfo, meanwhile, challenged the vice president to release all documents related to her use of public funds as vice president and former education secretary if she is confident in her innocence.

The Senate voted to archive the complaints, with Senate President Francis “Chiz” Escudero questioning whether his colleagues were “truly for accountability or simply anti-Duterte.”

Responding to Escudero’s remarks, Sara said some groups have already painted her as an enemy simply because of her family name. “Just because they are pro-yellow, pro-pink, or they are Marcos loyalists, many individuals see former President Rodrigo Duterte as a foe, by deduction they also see me as an enemy. So they label all Duterte’s as one Duterte,” she said.
