Vice President Sara Duterte has accepted the Senate’s move to archive the impeachment complaint filed against her, saying the decision of the majority must be upheld.
“Let us respect the role of the Philippine Senate and its part in our nation. The decision of the majority of the members of the Senate must be followed by all,” Duterte said in Cebuano during a brief interview in Davao City.
The Senate’s vote came a day after the Supreme Court ruled the impeachment complaint unconstitutional. In response, the Senate adopted an amended motion to archive the case, with 19 senators voting in favor, four opposing, and one abstaining.
Despite the outcome, Duterte stressed that her legal team had been fully ready to face the proceedings. “As I said, ‘di ba, I wanted a bloodbath, meaning I wanted all the pieces of evidence from the prosecution and all the pieces of evidence from the defense presented,” she said.
She also hinted at the possibility of future complaints, expressing readiness to face any renewed efforts to unseat her. “Possibly in 2026, 2027, or 2028, there will still be those who will file for impeachment. That will be another opportunity to respond,” Duterte said.
