Taxi slams into Filipino in Hong Kong; victim dies on the spot

A 35-year-old Filipino tourist tragically lost his life after being struck by a taxi in Tsuen Wan West on Tuesday, the Philippine Consulate General in Hong Kong confirmed the following day.

According to local reports, the fatal crash occurred just outside a hotel as the victim was stepping out with his luggage. A widely circulated 11-second video showed the taxi swerving and pinning the man against a concrete column. The taxi, reportedly driven by an 80-year-old man, suddenly veered off course after the driver allegedly felt dizzy and lost control of the vehicle.

The driver is now in police custody as authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the accident.

The remains of the Filipino national are currently at the Kwai Chung Public Mortuary. His family is expected to fly to Hong Kong soon to oversee the repatriation process.

In a statement, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said the Philippine Consulate General is closely working with local authorities and extending assistance to the grieving family.

“The Consulate General offers its deepest condolences to the deceased’s family and prays for his eternal rest,” the DFA stated.
