A tragic motorcycle accident in Kidapawan City claimed the life of a 22-year-old man and left his female passenger injured after a dog suddenly crossed their path, causing them to crash. The incident occurred in Barangay Sudapin and took an even worse turn when a second motorcycle rider, allegedly under the influence of alcohol, slammed into responding rescuers.
According to a GMA Regional TV One Mindanao report, members of the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) immediately rushed to the scene after receiving reports of the accident. However, while aiding the victims, another speeding motorcyclist rammed into the group.
The collision resulted in injuries to two CDRRMO personnel and the second rider, who was later taken into custody.
“Nalaman ng investigator mismo na lasing itong driver, itong nakabangga sa mga rescuer kasi amoy na amoy nila yung alak sa bunganga ng nakabangga,” confirmed Kidapawan City Police Station OIC Chief, Lt. Col. Dominador Palgan Jr., noting the rider’s intoxicated state at the time of the incident.
The young rider who initially crashed due to the stray dog was declared dead at the scene. His female passenger is currently recovering from her injuries.
Lt. Col. Palgan issued a stern reminder to the public following the incident: pet owners must keep their animals confined to avoid such accidents, and motorists should avoid drinking and driving.
“Itali or ikulong nila [ang mga alaga] para ‘di pagala-gala sa daan, maka-cause ng aksidente, and then ang mga motorista na umuuwi ng lasing, umuuwi ng nakainon, as much as possible iwasan nilang uminom while nagmamaneho,” he said.
