From poetry to pop-rock, InnerVoices brings authenticity back to Filipino music

In the rich landscape of Original Pilipino Music (OPM), there are only a select few bands that possess the rare ability to deeply move an audience — not just through melody, but through storytelling, sincerity, and soul. Among these rare gems is InnerVoices, a band that has not only stood the test of time but continues to redefine what it means to create meaningful music in the Philippine music scene.

Led by the ever-remarkable Atty. Rey ‘Boying’ Bergado, a seasoned lawyer and passionate musician, InnerVoices is more than just a band, they are curators of emotion, narrators of everyday love stories, heartbreaks, dreams, and resilience.

Formed in 1992, InnerVoices has woven itself into the cultural fabric of OPM for over three decades. Their music, often shaped from poetry written by Atty. Bergado’s partner and transformed into song, has carried a deeply personal and reflective quality — making their compositions resonate profoundly with generations of listeners.

Though the band experienced two significant hiatuses due to personal and professional responsibilities, the flame never died. In 2022, the group returned with a renewed creative force, ready to claim their rightful place in the spotlight once again.

A pivotal chapter in their resurgence came with the addition of Patrick Marcelino as the band’s new lead vocalist. His commanding presence and emotional depth breathed fresh life into InnerVoices’ sound. From his debut performance, it was clear, Patrick wasn’t merely joining a band — he was becoming part of a movement. His voice channels both vulnerability and power, allowing the band’s messages to soar with clarity and heart.

Together with an elite roster of musicians — Rene Tecson (lead guitar), Alvin Herbon (bass guitar), Joseph Cruz (second keyboardist), Ruben Tecson (drums), and Joseph Esparrago (drums and percussion) — InnerVoices delivers a performance experience that is as musically brilliant as it is emotionally gripping.

2025 has been a milestone year for InnerVoices. On April 30, the band released a suite of four new original tracks — ‘Meant To Be’ (written by Atty. Rey Bergado himself), ‘Galaw’, ‘Idlip’, and the powerful elemental anthem ‘Tubig, Hangin, Apoy, Lupa’ (T.H.A.L.). Not long after, they unveiled two more original songs at a sold-out show at Aromata Bar in Quezon City, the romantic and nostalgic ‘Sayaw sa Ilalim ng Buwan’ and the stirring ‘Handa na Kitang Mahalin’.

And the band shows no signs of slowing down. On June 25, fans were treated to another launch of three brand-new original songs at the iconic 19 East Bar in Parañaque City — a venue renowned for celebrating the best of Filipino musical artistry.

InnerVoices is not just a studio band. Their reputation as live performers is legendary — with gigs that draw crowds, not only because of their musical prowess but because of the sincerity they exude on stage. They are consistent favorites at top venues including The Hard Rock Café in Makati, Aromata Bar in Scout Lazcano, Noctos Bar in Quezon City, Tunnel Bar in the upscale Parqal Mall, and of course, 19 East Bar.

At each performance, they don’t simply play songs — they tell stories. Their shows are a rollercoaster of emotion, from the high of love’s first blush in songs like ‘Isasayaw Kita’, to the haunting beauty of ‘Saksi ang mga Tala’, and the heartfelt tribute of ‘Angel’.

What sets InnerVoices apart is their unwavering commitment to substance over spectacle. Their blend of pop-rock-new wave with poetic lyricism has created a musical identity that is uniquely their own. Each member, seasoned by years of experience and artistic integrity, brings something essential to the group’s dynamic — but it is Atty. Bergado’s leadership and vision that remains the heartbeat of InnerVoices.

Despite numerous accolades and industry recognition, the band remains grounded — driven not by fame, but by a mission to create music that matters. Their songs aren’t just melodies; they are time capsules of memories, echoes of truths we all carry, and companions for both joy and sorrow.

In a time where musical trends often prioritize the viral over the valuable, InnerVoices stands as a proud testament to the enduring power of authenticity. Their comeback is not merely a return, it is a renaissance of heartfelt OPM, led by a group of artists who refuse to compromise soul for sensation.

As they take the stage once more at Noctos Bar this August the 5th, one thing is certain… InnerVoices isn’t just back — they’re better, bolder, and more beautiful than ever.

If you truly love OPM, this is a performance you cannot afford to miss.

InnerVoices’ music that doesn’t just entertain — it lingers, it speaks, it stays.
