Japan needs more Filipino workers, says Kagawa governor during visit to DMW

The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) reaffirmed its commitment to creating more job opportunities for Filipinos in Japan by strengthening its partnership with the Kagawa Prefecture and key Japanese labor groups.

DMW Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac welcomed Kagawa Governor Toyohito Ikeda and representatives from the Kagawa Prefectural Federation of Small Business Associations and the Japan Employment Providers of the Philippines and Consultants’ Association (JEPPCA) during a meeting at the DMW Central Office on Tuesday.

“Your visit today is more than just a courtesy but a meaningful gesture of our partnership and shared purpose. We facilitate safe, fair, and productive overseas employment,” Cacdac said, underscoring the importance of collaborative efforts to uphold President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive to secure better employment conditions for overseas Filipino workers (OFWs).

Discussions focused on labor policies and ongoing concerns surrounding the recruitment and deployment of OFWs to Kagawa, where over 2,000 Filipinos are currently employed, particularly in caregiving and construction.

Governor Ikeda noted the growing demand for Filipino workers in his region, emphasizing their vital role in sustaining key industries.

According to the DMW, Japan-bound OFWs are deployed under two key schemes—the Technical Intern Training Program (TITP) and the Specified Skilled Worker (SSW) program. Currently, 335 licensed recruitment agencies are accredited to send workers under these programs.
