From ceasefire calls to food deliveries: UAE takes bold action for Gaza relief

Since the eruption of violence in Gaza in October 2023, the United Arab Emirates has been at the forefront of regional and global diplomatic efforts aimed at ending the bloodshed and ensuring life-saving aid reaches Palestinian civilians.

President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan has engaged in high-level talks with Arab and international leaders, consistently emphasizing the urgent need to protect civilians and secure the unimpeded flow of humanitarian assistance. At the BRICS Extraordinary Joint Meeting in November 2023, Sheikh Mohamed underscored the UAE’s call for an immediate ceasefire and stressed that “the international community must act now” to stop the suffering.

The UAE’s commitment has translated into tangible action. Following a July 2024 conversation between Sheikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar, the UAE secured the delivery of food aid to around 15,000 Gazans. This was just one of several successful initiatives led by the UAE to establish humanitarian truces and allow aid access.

As a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council, the UAE played a critical role in the adoption of Resolution 2712 in November 2023, which called for extended humanitarian corridors. The country also sponsored Resolution 2720 in December, pushing for increased aid flow and protection for humanitarian workers.

The UAE’s diplomatic momentum carried into 2024 and 2025 through its participation in several key summits and meetings — from Cairo and Brussels to Riyadh and New York — all reinforcing its unwavering message: ceasefire, humanitarian support, and a two-state solution remain essential for lasting peace.

The UAE also welcomed the International Court of Justice’s May 2024 decision urging Israel to halt military operations in Rafah and prevent further humanitarian catastrophe. In every international forum, the UAE has stressed the importance of collective global action to end the war and build a sustainable political future for Palestinians and Israelis alike.
