Man dies after month-long beer binge following divorce, son found him unconscious

A 44-year-old Thai man was found lifeless in his bedroom after reportedly surviving on beer alone for a month, following an emotional fallout from his divorce.

The man, identified as Thaweesak Namwongsa, was discovered by his 16-year-old son in their home in Ban Chang district, Rayong province. The teenager had been trying to care for his father, preparing meals daily in hopes that he would eat. But Mr. Namwongsa, grieving the end of his marriage, allegedly refused food and relied solely on alcohol.

According to the boy, he returned home from school to find his father having a seizure. Emergency responders from the Siam Rayong Foundation rushed to the scene, but Mr. Namwongsa had already passed away.

Paramedics noted that more than 100 empty beer bottles cluttered the man’s bedroom, arranged in a way that left only a narrow walkway to the bed. Authorities suspect excessive alcohol consumption played a significant role in his death, though an autopsy is underway to determine the exact cause.

The case echoes another recent tragedy in Thailand involving alcohol. Thanakarn Kanthee, an online influencer known as “Bank Leicester,” died last year after drinking two bottles of whisky in 20 minutes during a party challenge. The man who organized the challenge, Ekkachart Meephrom, was arrested and admitted his role in the incident, which was reportedly planned by his mother, Supranee Phoonkasi.
