As President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. prepares to deliver his fourth State of the Nation Address (SONA), political group Akbayan has given him an “incomplete” grade, citing concerns over the administration’s performance on human rights.
Akbayan congressional representative Chel Diokno emphasized the administration’s failure to meet expectations in protecting and promoting human rights. “The Marcos administration has fallen short in upholding and advancing human rights in the country,” Diokno said.
He added that the president still has a chance to improve his record by supporting key legislation. “President Marcos can redeem himself by certifying as urgent in his SONA human rights-related proposals. If he can do that, we will be more than willing to give him a passing grade,” he said.
Marcos Jr. is scheduled to face the nation on Monday, where his administration’s progress and priorities are expected to be scrutinized closely by both allies and critics.
