The Philippine passport is now ranked 72nd among the world’s most powerful travel documents, according to the latest Henley Global Passport Index. This marks a three-spot rise from its 75th position earlier this year, reflecting gradual progress in Filipinos’ travel mobility.
The Henley Passport Index bases its rankings on how many destinations passport holders can access without a visa. For the Philippines, each visa-free destination contributes a point to its total score, using data provided by the International Air Transport Association (IATA).
In recent years, the country’s rankings have fluctuated, previously placing 73rd in 2024, 78th in 2023, 80th in 2022, 77th in 2021, and 74th in 2020.
At the top of the index, Singapore continues to hold the strongest passport in the world, offering visa-free access to 193 countries. Japan and South Korea follow closely in second place, each with a score of 190.
Other top-ranking countries include Denmark, France, Germany, and several other European nations, while the least powerful passport remains Afghanistan’s, which only provides visa-free access to 25 destinations.
