Content creator and financial advisor Zac Alviz has issued a public apology after drawing criticism for a Facebook post that many called insensitive amid widespread flooding in the Philippines.
In the now-deleted post, Alviz appeared to highlight the benefits of living in a condominium during disasters, writing: “In moments like this, [doon] mo masasabi na worth it ‘yung condo investments mo… Sara mo lang bintana mo, okay ka na. Resume Netflix na ulit.”
The post sparked immediate backlash, with both the public and fellow influencers calling him out for flaunting his situation while others were dealing with leaking roofs, submerged homes, and mounting losses. Among those who criticized him were podcaster TPC, who said: “Paano ko kaya gagamitin ‘tong kasalukuyang pagdurusa ng ibang tao para maiyabang ‘yung maganda kong sitwasyon,” and Rendon Labrador who wrote: “Napakaangas mo naman. E ‘di ikaw na naka-condo.”
Responding to the controversy, Alviz took to social media to express remorse. “I want to sincerely apologise for what I said in my recent post. It was insensitive and irresponsible, especially given the situation so many are going through right now,” he wrote.
He shared that he grew up in Valenzuela and Malabon—areas familiar with flooding—and admitted that he should have been more thoughtful. “Getting soaked in floods at church and school… I should’ve known better.”
Alviz also opened up about his personal struggle with empathy. “Even as a kid, when I saw someone homeless… my first instinct was to ask how they got there instead of simply offering help,” he said.
He concluded his apology by promising to grow from the experience: “I’m taking this as a moment of learning. I’ll do better and I’ll be better. My heart goes out to everyone facing difficult challenges right now. I’m really sorry.”
