A 23-year-old pregnant woman lost her life after a century-old coconut tree unexpectedly fell on her in Malita, Davao Occidental.
According to a GMA News Online report, the tragic incident happened in Barangay Ticulon while the woman, who was in her ninth month of pregnancy, was walking nearby. Despite the absence of strong winds, the large tree suddenly collapsed, fatally striking her.
She was immediately rushed to a hospital but was declared dead shortly after due to serious head and body injuries. Her unborn baby also did not survive the ordeal.
The tree involved was identified as a centennial coconut tree. Local authorities have yet to determine the exact cause of the tree’s fall.
