Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla revealed a new lead in the long-running investigation into the disappearance of several sabungeros (cockfighting enthusiasts), as authorities uncovered a basketball jersey among human remains recently found in sacks.
Remulla confirmed that a possible witness has recognized the jersey, describing it as “familiar.” The item was discovered along with bones, which are now undergoing further examination.
“A possible witness saw the basketball uniform,” Remulla said in Filipino, indicating that the clothing could be key in identifying one of the victims.
He emphasized that conclusive identification still hinges on DNA testing. “We cannot tell right now. We have to have DNA evidence,” he noted.
The Justice chief assured the public that the government is pushing forward with the probe. “We’re not stopping. We’re not stopping,” he stressed, calling the investigation “incessant” and crucial to bringing closure to the high-profile case.
Remulla also reiterated the need for a methodical process: “We cannot rush this. It really needs to be systematic,” he said, pointing out that the integrity of the investigation depends on coordinated and careful handling of evidence.
