Office of the Vice President (OVP) Spokesperson Ruth Castelo clarified on Wednesday, July 16, that she has no ties to the present dealings of gaming tycoon Charlie “Atong” Ang, who is currently under scrutiny in connection with the case of the missing sabungeros.
Castelo addressed the matter during a press conference, stating that her connection to Ang was purely professional and limited to legal representation in the past.
“Charlie ‘Atong’ Ang was my client in 2007 for the crime of plunder. We succeeded in seeking for probation and he was given a two-year period. So in 2009, I released him from the Bicutan where he stayed,” she explained.
She emphasized that their lawyer-client relationship ended the moment he was freed.
“We remained friends, yes, but his own activities, his endeavors, his own businesses, I have nothing to do with anymore… No, I’m not involved in any of his activities from the time that he was released from Bicutan,” she stressed.
