Motorists no longer need to line up at Land Transportation Office (LTO) branches to renew their driver’s licenses, as the agency officially rolled out the online renewal system through the eGovPH mobile app.
LTO Chief Assistant Secretary Atty. Vigor D. Mendoza II announced the new feature on Thursday, calling it a convenient step toward a more seamless digital experience for the public. “This is a better alternative for going to LTO offices since you don’t need to shell out money for transportation to our offices and don’t even need to queue in any license renewal offices,” Mendoza said in a statement.
The digital initiative, according to Mendoza, is part of a broader effort to follow President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive to modernize and simplify government services. “All of these digitalization efforts are intended to make all transactions in the LTO fast and comfortable to all our clients,” he added, noting the involvement of Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon in pushing the project forward.
To access the service, motorists must download the eGovPH app via the App Store or Google Play. Once installed, users can find the LTO section, select “Online Driver’s Application,” and proceed to renew their license by uploading a copy of their physical card. After the system validates the document, users will be prompted to take a photo and confirm their information before submitting the application.
To ensure smooth processing, motorists are advised to first complete the required Telemedicine Medical Examination and the five-hour Online Driver’s Enhancement Program (ODEP). Both can be scheduled and taken through the LTO’s digital portal. Once these steps are completed, users can pay the renewal fee using the available online payment options.
Mendoza emphasized that a successful submission automatically renews the driver’s license and generates a valid electronic version within the app. “The e-license is valid as the physical card,” he said, reassuring drivers who opt for the digital version.
Drivers who still prefer a physical license card can choose to either pick it up from the nearest LTO office or have it delivered through a courier service.
