A woman in Al Ain has been ordered by the Court of First Instance to pay AED 20,000 in damages after being found guilty of insulting another woman through WhatsApp messages.
According to a Gulf Today report, the ruling comes after the defendant was earlier convicted in a separate case for the same offense, a conviction that was upheld by the Court of Appeal. Building on that verdict, the plaintiff pursued a civil lawsuit, demanding AED 100,000 in compensation for the emotional and reputational harm she claimed to have suffered, along with legal costs.
The court found that the defendant’s actions had indeed caused significant psychological, moral, and material distress. It concluded that the harm was directly linked to the verbal abuse, justifying the need for financial compensation.
While the court acknowledged the damages, it awarded AED 20,000 as a reasonable amount for the harm incurred.
