Dubai airport bracing for summer rush as schools close and long weekend begins

Dubai International Airport is expected to experience a surge in passengers this week as schools wrap up for the summer and residents take advantage of the extended weekend.

Emirates Airlines has warned travelers of peak travel conditions starting June 26, with more than 30,000 passengers expected to fly out daily through the end of the month. The airline advised flyers to brace for longer travel times to and through the airport.

“Customers should plan for extra traffic on the roads approaching the airport, busier carparks, more people at the airport going through immigration, and the time it may take to travel between Concourses and reach Boarding Gates,” the airline said in a statement.

To avoid complications, Emirates urges passengers to arrive at the airport three hours before departure and clear immigration at least 1.5 hours ahead of their flight. Boarding gates should be reached no later than one hour before takeoff.

The expected rush coincides with most Dubai schools closing for the summer on June 26. The following day, June 27, marks a public holiday in celebration of the Islamic New Year, giving residents a rare three-day weekend — an ideal window for summer getaways.

Passengers are also advised to stay updated on flight details amid recent disruptions. Several airlines, including Air India, faced delays and cancellations last week after a deadly crash in Ahmedabad led Indian regulators to enforce additional safety checks.
