Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla said the government is stepping up investments to boost public safety across the country, aiming to make the Philippines one of the safest places in the world.
Speaking at the Hotel Sales and Marketing Association Summit in Parañaque City, Remulla emphasized the administration’s push for stronger law enforcement and rapid emergency response. “For the next few years, next few months, [we’re investing] heavily to make the country one of the safest in the world,” he said.
Among the top initiatives, Remulla highlighted the expansion of the 911 emergency system, which will be fully operational by July in key urban centers like Metro Manila, Cebu, and Davao. The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) also plans to install at least one CCTV camera for every 1,000 square meters nationwide and to improve police mobility through additional vehicle procurement—part of a broader effort to achieve a five-minute response time for emergency situations.
The renewed security drive comes after a travel safety index initially tagged the Philippines as the “least safe country”—a label the site later retracted following criticism, including from the Department of Tourism.
