Sara Duterte thanks OFWs in The Hague for support amid father’s ICC detention

Vice President Sara Duterte met with Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) in The Hague, Netherlands, on May 31, 2025, offering heartfelt thanks for their warm reception and steadfast support for her family as her father, former president Rodrigo Duterte, remains detained in the city.

The event, attended by prominent Philippine figures including incoming Davao City Vice Mayor Baste Duterte, Senators Robin Padilla and Imee Marcos, and Senator-elect Rodante Marcoleta, became a show of unity and reassurance to the Filipino community abroad.

In a Facebook post, Duterte emphasized her office’s unwavering commitment to support Filipinos overseas. “Muli ko namang siniguro sa ating mga kababayan doon na patuloy ang Tanggapan ng Pangalawang Pangulo sa pagtaguyod ng kapakanan ng ating mga kababayang OFW,” she said.

Her visit comes months after her father’s controversial arrest and turnover to the International Criminal Court (ICC) on March 11, 2025, in connection with alleged human rights abuses tied to the bloody drug war during his presidency. His ongoing detention in The Hague has drawn global attention and deeply affected many of his supporters, both in the Philippines and abroad.
