Karl Eldrew Yulo falls short of vault title defense, bags silver in South Korea

Karl Eldrew Yulo fell short of defending his vault crown at the 2025 Men’s Artistic Gymnastics Junior Asian Championships in Jecheon, South Korea, as he settled for a silver medal finish on Sunday.

The 16-year-old standout from the Philippines scored 13.900 in his first vault and 13.800 in the second, averaging 13.850 points. This placed him behind South Korea’s Bak Junwoo, who clinched the gold with an average of 13.933. Another Korean gymnast, An Daegeon, took bronze with a 13.783 average.

Yulo, who claimed the vault title in Uzbekistan last year, failed to reach the podium in other events. He ranked fourth in pommel horse with 12.600 points, sixth in floor exercise with a 12.266, and eighth in the horizontal bar with 12.033. His total score of 75.698 placed him ninth in the individual all-around.

The silver in vault remained his only medal in this year’s competition.

Meanwhile, his older brother, Carlos Yulo, continued to shine in the senior division, having already earned a bronze in the individual all-around and a gold in floor exercise.
