Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac expressed deep gratitude to UAE Immigration authorities for their critical role in assisting distressed Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) during the 2024 Amnesty Program.
Cacdac, who is in Dubai to join the 127th Philippine Independence Day celebration hosted by Emirates Loves Philippines and assess the needs of OFWs affected by the May 13 Al Barsha fire, took the opportunity to acknowledge the UAE’s compassionate efforts toward undocumented Filipinos.
He highlighted how UAE authorities provided “clear guidelines, streamlined processes, and compassionate support” that allowed over a thousand OFWs and their families to be repatriated with dignity. According to the DMW, a total of 1,208 individuals benefited from the amnesty program through the Migrant Workers Offices in Dubai and Abu Dhabi.
Quoting President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., Cacdac said, “This gesture is a reflection of our countries’ special partnership,” emphasizing that such acts of kindness help strengthen bilateral ties and foster long-term understanding.
The amnesty initiative offered a legal pathway for undocumented individuals, not only easing their burdens but also reinforcing the UAE’s recognition of the significant role Filipinos play in its society and economy.
Cacdac’s visit also includes meetings with OFW detainees and undocumented mothers and children in Dubai and the Northern Emirates, continuing the department’s commitment to ensuring no Filipino is left behind.
