Philippines takes Miss Grand International 2024 crown after original winner steps down

For the first time in pageant history, the Miss Grand International crown is officially heading to the Philippines.

Christine Julianne “CJ” Opiaza has been named Miss Grand International 2024, taking over the title after the original winner, Rachel Gupta, stepped down from her reign through a public announcement on May 28. The Filipino beauty queen, who was first runner-up in last year’s edition, is set to be crowned on June 3 at the MGI Hall in Bravo BKK, Bangkok, Thailand.

The Miss Grand International organization confirmed the news with a powerful statement on social media: “Time tells all. The CROWN has found its QUEEN,” alongside an image of Opiaza with the Philippine flag and the golden crown behind her.

MGI president Nawat Itsaragrisil personally endorsed the transition, calling Opiaza the “right person and real queen.”

On her Instagram page, Opiaza embraced the moment with a symbolic message: “Rising from the golden ashes is a Phoenix who is ready for a comeback to conquer the grandest heights,” she wrote, paired with a stunning photo of herself clad in a fiery red gown.

Opiaza’s coronation marks a milestone for the Philippines, which previously came close to securing the Miss Grand International title twice, with Nicole Cordoves (2016) and Samantha Bernardo (2020) both finishing as runners-up.

Her victory also brings another international crown to the ALV Pageant Circle led by Arnold Vegafria. The organization now proudly manages four global titleholders, including Universal Woman 2024 Maria Gigante, Face of Beauty International 2024 Jeanne Isabelle Bilasano, and Reina Hispanoamericana 2025 Dia Mate.

CJ Opiaza’s crowning moment will be streamed live on the GrandTV YouTube channel, allowing fans across the globe to witness the historic occasion.
