Nationwide 911 emergency hotline to begin rollout in July, says DILG

The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) is preparing to launch a nationwide 911 emergency hotline system starting July, with the initial phase to be implemented in select regions.

DILG Secretary Jonvic Remulla announced during a press briefing at Camp Karingal in Quezon City that the rollout will begin once the department receives the Special Allotment Release Order (SARO). “We’ll get the SARO this week, so within around six to eight weeks, it’ll be finished,” he said.

The first areas to benefit from the upgraded 911 system include the Ilocos Region, Central Visayas, the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), and the National Capital Region (NCR). Surrounding Greater Metro Manila provinces—Cavite, Laguna, and Rizal—will also be part of the initial launch.

Remulla emphasized that the 911 system falls under the DILG’s scope since most emergency response services, including fire, ambulances, and local government units, are under its jurisdiction.

To handle police-related calls, the Philippine National Police’s existing 911 system will be utilized and integrated into the overall network.

Remulla added that the new system will use advanced technologies, including live streaming and geolocation features, to allow emergency responders to see real-time incidents and accurately trace caller locations.
