Residents across the UAE endured another punishingly hot day on May 22, with temperatures soaring dangerously close to the 50°C mark, according to the National Center of Meteorology (NCM).
The highest temperature of the day was recorded in Bada Dafas in Abu Dhabi’s Al Dhafrah region, peaking at a blistering 49.3°C at 2 p.m. Other areas across the nation reported highs ranging from 45°C to 48°C, creating sweltering conditions from coast to desert.
Adding to the discomfort, strong winds blew dust into the air at speeds between 10–25 km/h, occasionally gusting up to 35 km/h. The NCM warned motorists to remain vigilant on the roads as sudden dust storms could reduce visibility.
Humidity levels also surged, with forecasts predicting highs of up to 90%, creating a stifling atmosphere, especially during the evening.
Those with respiratory sensitivities were urged to limit their time outdoors, while beachgoers were advised that the Arabian Gulf may experience slight to moderate waves, though the Oman Sea is expected to remain calmer.
