Actress Nadine Lustre has formally filed a complaint against persistent online harassment, invoking the Safe Spaces Act to call out the malicious attacks she’s been receiving on social media.
The complaint was lodged on May 21, targeting individuals or groups allegedly responsible for ongoing digital abuse aimed at Lustre.
ML Partylist, which Lustre supported in the last elections, expressed solidarity with the actress. In a Facebook post shared by former senator Leila de Lima, the group emphasized the broader significance of Nadine’s action.
“This is a necessary step in a time when social media is being used to silence voices that speak for justice and reform,” the statement read. It pointed out that digital platforms are being exploited to spread hate and disinformation instead of promoting constructive discourse.
The group underscored the fine line between free expression and abuse, warning that “expression becomes dangerous when it is driven by disinformation and personal malice.”
De Lima added, “These are part of deliberate effort to harass, discredit, and instill fear… We support Nadine. Her case is a stand for truth and accountability. Make no mistake: we will push back against this kind of behavior.”
As of this writing, Nadine Lustre has not issued a personal statement or named the individuals involved in the complaint.
