Man ordered to pay AED 70,000 for defaming store online

An Al Ain court has ruled that a man must pay AED 70,000 in compensation after being found guilty of defaming a local store through harmful statements posted on social media and other digital platforms.

According to a Gulf Today report, the legal battle began when the store owner filed a lawsuit, initially seeking AED 200,000 in compensation for both material and moral damages. The owner argued that the false statements had severely damaged the store’s reputation, leading to financial losses.

The court found that the defendant’s actions were already proven in a prior criminal case, which had been upheld on appeal. Acknowledging the impact of the defamatory statements, the court concluded that the store had indeed suffered damage due to the false accusations.

In response, the court ordered the defendant to pay AED 70,000 to the store owner, holding him accountable for his actions.
