Malacañang has dismissed the impeachment complaint filed against President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. by allies of former President Rodrigo Duterte, asserting that the complaint lacks merit.
The complaint, initiated by former Duterte Youth party-list representative Marie Cardema and ex-National Youth Commission chairperson Ronald Cardema, was presented to the media on Thursday, where they displayed a copy of the “verified impeachment complaint.”
Presidential Communications Office (PCO) Press Officer Claire Castro downplayed the move during a press briefing on Friday, affirming the Palace’s stance. “It is their right if they wish to file,” Castro said in Filipino. “The complaint, in my view, has no basis.”
The Cardemas claimed that Marcos Jr.’s alleged approval of the transfer of Duterte’s case to the International Criminal Court (ICC) was the primary reason for the impeachment complaint.
Despite the legal maneuver, Malacañang emphasized its confidence in the strength of the president’s leadership and dismissed the allegations as an unwarranted distraction.
