Sara Duterte confirms receiving summons over NBI case tied to sedition raps

Vice President Sara Duterte confirmed on Tuesday that she has received a summons from the Office of the Prosecutor regarding a case filed against her by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI).

In a Manila Bulletin report, Duterte disclosed the development but did not elaborate on the charges. The NBI earlier filed complaints of grave threats and inciting to sedition before the Department of Justice, stemming from her controversial November 2024 remarks where she allegedly threatened to have President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, and House Speaker Martin Romualdez killed if something were to happen to her.

The Vice President had previously failed to attend two NBI summons in November and December 2024. It is now up to the Office of the Prosecutor to determine whether the case should proceed to court.

Duterte did not say whether she plans to formally respond to the summons.

She made the revelation after being asked about the human trafficking charges filed against former presidential spokesperson Harry Roque, Cassandra Ong, and over 40 others linked to the banned Philippine offshore gaming operator Lucky South 99 Corp. in Pampanga.

“Hindi na tayo nagugulat… dahil isa talaga siya sa mga malakas ang boses at malakas ang loob na magsabi kung ano ang mali sa administrasyon ngayon,” Duterte said, referring to Roque, who has reportedly sought asylum in the Netherlands after leaving the country in late 2024.
