Animal welfare group to pursue charges against man who violently threw cat at Bulacan market

The Animal Kingdom Foundation (AKF) is preparing to file charges against a man who was caught on video violently throwing a cat twice to the ground at a wet market in Meycauayan, Bulacan—an act that allegedly led to the animal’s death.

As reported on “Saksi”, the shocking incident happened as the man casually walked through the market, suddenly grabbing the cat and slamming it onto the floor. Witnesses were stunned, but instead of chasing after him, their priority was to try and revive the injured cat.

A witness shared that after about 20 minutes, the cat managed to stand up, leading many to believe it would recover. Sadly, despite the initial signs of movement, the cat later struggled to walk and eventually died.

Efforts to locate the man at his supposed market stall have so far been unsuccessful.

AKF Program Director Heidi Marquez emphasized that the act could carry serious consequences under the Animal Welfare Act. “’Pag namatay yung hayop na naging biktima ng pagmamaltrato o pang-aabuso, mas mataas ang penalty nito na umaabot sa dalawang taon o multa hanggang P100,000,” she explained.

Beyond seeking justice for the cat, the AKF also plans to work with local authorities and vendors to protect other animals in the area. Marquez noted that their approach will focus on education, spaying, neutering, and rabies vaccination. “We will meet with the market and vendor association, along with the city vet or municipal agriculturist, to organize an education campaign and implement proper care programs for the cats,” she said.
