Children with autism turned a simple Sunday morning into a moving celebration of creativity and resilience as they participated in a special calligraphy workshop led by Filipino artist Gino Banola. The event, held at ABLE UK in Dubai Healthcare City, marked World Autism Acceptance Month with a powerful message: acceptance and awareness.

Kids aged 4 to 18 filled a giant canvas with these words, using calligraphy as a creative outlet to express themselves and develop fine motor skills. Banola, a Baybayin calligrapher who has been leading this initiative for two years now, patiently guided the young participants through the art form.
Adding to the emotional morning, children with autism and ADHD offered a heartfelt prayer performance, showcasing not just their talents but also their strength and spirit.
Pamela Amor Calinog, founder and president of the AFJ community and Brand Ambassador of Hidden Disabilities Sunflower UAE, took a moment to open the floor to parents, who shared personal stories of their children’s journeys. It was a session that emphasized community, understanding, and hope.
“This unforgettable day was filled with hope, resilience, and creativity — with children showcasing their talents through calligraphy, prayer performances, and art,” ABLE UK said in a statement. “At ABLE UK, we are committed to creating a space where every child feels celebrated and supported.”

Also in attendance was Philippine Consul General Marford Angeles, alongside a video message from the wife of the Philippine Ambassador, further strengthening the spirit of support within the Filipino community.
“Children with autism have unique abilities as beautiful and profound as our Baybayin heritage. Collaborating with sir Gino Banola and Able UK for Ausome Baybayin reminds the world that when we work together, we give these amazing children the platform to be seen, heard, and celebrated,” Calinog shares with TGFM.
Adding to the celebration, it was noted that both Calinog and Banola were recently recognized by The Global Filipino Magazine. Calinog received the honor of “Emerging Global Filipino Icon 2025,” while Banola was celebrated as a finalist — a fitting recognition for two individuals making an inspiring difference.
