Vice President Sara Duterte has called on Filipinos to take a more active role in the fight against climate change, highlighting the importance of collective efforts in restoring and protecting the environment.
In her Earth Day video message on Wednesday, Duterte encouraged the public to reflect on the Philippines’ natural abundance and the duty to preserve it. “This Earth Day, we are reminded that the power to restore and protect our environment lies in our collective action,” she said. “Guided by the theme ‘Our Power, Our Planet,’ let us commit to fighting climate change, safeguarding biodiversity, and securing a livable future.”
She urged communities to take part in clean-up drives or start local greening initiatives to contribute to environmental preservation. “Together, we can build a greener, stronger, and more resilient Philippines,” Duterte added.
She also emphasized the Office of the Vice President’s own initiative—Pagbabago: A Million Learners and Trees Campaign—which aims to plant one million trees across the country by 2028 as part of global reforestation efforts.
