UAE bank warns users against falling for online ‘easy money’ tasks

Emirates NBD has issued a strong warning to its customers, urging them to remain vigilant against a growing number of online scams disguised as flexible part-time job offers.

In an advisory sent to account holders, the bank highlighted a surge in fraudulent schemes that lure victims through platforms like WhatsApp, SMS, and group chats. These scams often promise daily earnings of AED 200 to AED 2,500 for seemingly simple tasks such as liking posts, sharing content, or writing restaurant reviews on Google Maps.

“Scammers are becoming more aggressive, targeting innocent people with fake job offers, investment traps, and false promises of easy money,” the bank said in its notice. “Their real goal is to steal your personal and financial information.”

The warning showcased examples of deceptive messages, with fraudsters posing as HR coordinators or marketing agents from fake companies. These messages offer remote jobs with high daily pay and instruct victims to accept payments via bank transfer or UPI, a tactic used to gain access to the recipient’s banking details.

To help customers avoid falling victim, Emirates NBD advised the public to stay away from “get-rich-quick” or “passive income” groups and to verify job or investment opportunities directly with the companies offering them.

“If you receive a suspicious message, do not respond. Report it to Emirates NBD immediately and block the sender,” the bank added. “This helps to protect yourself and others from falling victim to the scam.”
