Overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) passing through the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) can soon expect better facilities during long layovers, as the airport’s new operator plans to build a special rest area tailored for their comfort.
The New NAIA Infra Corp. (NNIC), which officially took over airport operations in September 2024, announced that it will soon open a dedicated OFW rest space featuring beds, massage chairs, shower rooms, and lockers. The facility will be available to OFWs with layovers of at least eight hours. However, no official launch date has been provided yet.
“New NAIA Infra Corp. is working to make your airport experience more comfortable — because you deserve nothing less,” NNIC said in an advisory posted online.
The OFW Lounge, which offers free meals, beverages, charging stations, and Wi-Fi, has been operating at Terminal 3 since July 2024 and at Terminal 1 since January this year. A separate OFW immigration lane has also been introduced to speed up the departure process.
“Departing OFWs no longer need to line up at the regular counters,” the announcement read.
NNIC is composed of San Miguel Holdings Corp., RMM Asian Logistics Inc., RLW Aviation Development Inc., and Incheon International Airport Corp. The group secured the P170.6-billion concession agreement with the Department of Transportation in March 2024, after offering the highest revenue share to the government.
