The Australian government has issued a travel advisory urging its citizens to exercise increased caution when visiting the Philippines due to security concerns.
The advisory, which remains in effect as of Thursday, highlights the risks of terrorism, violent crime, and potential civil unrest. It warns travelers to avoid protests and large gatherings, as they could escalate into violence.
Authorities also caution that terrorist attacks may occur in various locations, including airports, public transport hubs, hotels, shopping centers, restaurants, major events, places of worship, and tourist destinations.
Additionally, the advisory strongly discourages travel to central and western Mindanao, including the Zamboanga Peninsula, Sulu Archipelago, and the southern Sulu Sea, citing a heightened risk of terrorism and kidnapping.
