Vice President Sara Duterte arrived at Dubai International Airport as part of her scheduled European trip from March 11 to April 30. Malacañang approved her travel to Germany, France, Belgium, and the Netherlands.
Her visit coincides with the ongoing trial of her father, former President Rodrigo Duterte, at the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague. The former leader was arrested on March 11 over allegations of crimes against humanity related to his administration’s controversial anti-drug campaign.
Prior to her departure, Sara had stated that she intended to consult with lawyers regarding her father’s legal situation. She has condemned his arrest, calling it a betrayal of Philippine sovereignty.
